Spring Awakening: Equipment Essentials & Hive Preparation for New and Overwintered Colonies
March 4 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
As we transition from winter to spring, beekeepers face different priorities depending on whether they’re starting fresh or managing established hives. This session covers essential equipment needs for new beekeepers setting up their first colonies, alongside critical spring management tasks for overwintered hives.
We’ll discuss:
- New beekeepers: Must-have equipment, setup timing, and what to have ready before your package or nuc arrives
- Overwintered hives: Early spring inspection priorities, assessing colony strength, feeding strategies, and when to add supers
- Equipment maintenance and preparation: Cleaning, repairs, and getting gear ready for the active season
- Common pitfalls to avoid in March/April and how to set yourself up for success
Whether you’re placing your first order or waking up established hives, you’ll leave with a clear action plan for the critical weeks ahead.
Open to members and guests interested in beekeeping.
